Born in 1984 in Beijing, China, Kim Ye is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on sculpture, performance, and video.
At its core, Kim Ye's work is tied to issues of action and identity. Employing humor to re-contextualizes bodily processes and rituals, she blurs lines separating art/life, public/private, and erotic/repulsive. Her new body of work debuted in her first solo show at Deborah Martin Gallery in January 2010.
Ye is currently an MFA candidate in sculpture at UCLA. She began her studio art studies at Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where she was awarded the Matthew Klopfleisch Memorial Prize in Art, inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and graduated summa cum laude. In 2006, Ye was the recipient of the Corinne Gilbert Beaver Prize in Art.
Currently, Kim Ye is the Gallery Director of The Annex LA alternative art space and runs the Carwashkim Clothing Relocation Project.
